1
Open a new image, 300 x 400, transparent, 24bits (choice the
dimensions of your interest and agreement with the effect that
you intend to print to the graphic - for this exercise, prefer
even numbers, to facilitate the exact position of the "X"
that we will simulate).
2
Add a new Layer over the first one. Nominate the two layers
as follows: "1" and "2". Activate the the
layer "1" and prepare the base of your graphic, defining
the background (color or texture) and all other elements that
will compose that image, including the possible text.
3
In The layer "2" put a background, color or texture
you want to compose the superior body of the image. Choose the
pattern of your preference, or the color that will better compose
your work. See the graphics:
4
At this point you have two layers: the layer "1",
with the background image, and the layer "2" with
the pattern applied. Selects the layer "2", with which
we will go work from now on. Our objective will be divide the
image in four equal parts, by selection, for right away apply
in each one individually, the plugin "page curl".
Then we see: in the toolbox, double click the "Selection"
tool, what will do open the box "Select Area" (take
care to set that tool as "rectangle/ Feather=0", in
Tool Options). See the graphics:

the
window Select Area is open with a double click in the
"Selection" tool

Having in mind that our image has the dimensions of 300 px of
width by 400 px of height (look the item "Image Size"
in the graphic above), we'll define the size and position of
the first selection, in the adequate places - for the upper
left
selection: Left =
0, Right = 150 (to define the selection's
position and width),
and Top = 0, Bottom = 200 (to
define the selection's
position and
height. Notices that the initial point of this selection is
the point "0", so much for Left as for Top, and that
the width (Right) is set with 150 px (half of the total width
of the image) and the height (Bottom) is set with 200 px (Half
from the total height of the image) - click OK to accept. See
the result:

With this selection active,
clique in Effects/ Page Curl, and set the fields as the graphic
(look the result of this application in the graphic below):

notices
that the effect applied inside the selection already permits
the viewing from the lower layer, with the background

7
Double
click again in the the tool "Selection" to open the
window "Select Area" and define the upper right selection,
as follows : Left = 150, Right = 300 (to set the selection's
position and width),
and Top = 0, Bottom = 200 (to
set the selection's
position and
height) - clique OK to accept. To continue, follow the same
procedures of the item "6" of this tutorial to open
and define the Page Curl plugin, maintaining the same definitions
of the graphic of the item"6", and changing barely
the item "Orientation" to "39" (every time
that you will apply that effect in each one of the selections,
those configurations should be maintained, changing barely the
item "Orientation", as according to the selection
it is applied).
8
Repeat
the procedures for open the window "Select Area" and
define the lower left
selection (Left =
0, Right = 150, Top = 200, Bottom = 400), and applying the effect
Page Curl (as you did in the step "7") moving barely
the item "Orientation" for "68" - for the
lower right
selection define the
fields with Left = 150, Right = 300, Top = 200, Bottom = 400,
in Select Area, and move the item "Orientation", in
Page Curl, for "26". See the results:
9
Still with the layer "2" active, press the keys CTRL+A
to select all the layer, and apply on this image, the effect
or effects you want to. In our example I used the plugin "Texturizer",
with the texture "canvas", defined with 100% in Scaling
and a Relief of 4, two times.
The work is ready! Save it in GIF
or JPG.
Hint:
do many experiences with what you finish learning how, in the
use of the Selections
tool , and in the
use of the plugin Page Curl. Down, another graphic, produced
with the same way above explained, and with one or other small
transformation.
