Open a new image, 100 x 100px, transparent, and "flood
fill" with the color of your choice - in our example I
used a light blue one (192, 255, 255).
2
At the menu bar click Effects/ Texture Effects/ Blinds
- in the 'Blinds' window make the following definitions: width:
50 (the image exact half width); opacity: 71; color:
dark yellow-green (128,128, 0); field 'horizontal' and 'light
from left/top´: checked. OK, to apply. Look the result:

3
Create a New Raster Layer, flood fill with the same
previous color and repeat the steps to open the 'Blinds' window
- accept the same previously done configurations, barely modifying
the field 'horizontal', that now must be checked. Apply.
Look the result:

4
Activate the image (its title bar should be 'lighted'),
click in the Layers Palette and define the newest layer visibility
to 63 (to do that you must drag the arrows in the 'Layer
opacity' bar to the desired place). In this way you are able
to visualize the two layers at the same time (Horizontal and
vertical) finalizing at this point the first step of your tile.

5
Click Layers/ Merge/ Merge visible.
6
Click Copy and then Edit/ Paste/ As New Layer.
7
Click Image/ Mirror - set this layer visibility to 63.
You'll be defining, by this way, a very
light and
smooth
appearance
to this work. Look
the result:

Your
four tiles group is ready. At this moment, if you prefer, use
once again the "Merge visible layers" command, just
to merge these two layers. Personally I do not merge them -
I do prefer to maintain the layers, with its all stages available
for future edition, in PSP native format, as well as they are.
9
And
now, let's decorate the tiles! Add a new layer - find an image
(a 'tube' in preference) and apply it on the left upper tile.
Add another layer and apply the same image (just to exactly
reproduce the steps of this exercise) in the lower right tile.
Set the visibility of those two layers with images to 52
10
Select
the layer containing the left upper image and click Colors/
Colorize and define the fields: Hue: 40; Saturation:
62
11
This
work is done. Save it, with all its layers, in "psp"
format. In succession you will export it as a GIF, so
you'll guarantee it could normally be visualized at any place.
To export a file follow the steps: File/ Export/ GIF Optimizer.
With this window opened , and in the tab 'Transparency', keep
checked only the field None; in the tab 'Colors' define
the first field to 256, and the second (dithering) to
100%. Activate the field 'Optimized Medium Cut'. Clique
OK to save. Look
the result:

If you want to
take the image I used in this example, be my guest. If use it
as a tube (it is a tube) you must define the scale to
12. Click HERE
to download the image.
Important:
this kind of image don't looks good in jpg format - it
is fundamental to observe the same amount of dithering above
indicated, otherwise the finished quality of the work will be
ruined.
Many
variations are possible, in several moments of our 'step by
step'. Try it and...
Enjoy it!
